Bungalow Festival
As someone who has attended countless festivals and concerts, I challenged myself to create a music festival in the role of creative director or brand designer.
I came up with the name ‘Bungalow’ as an ode to Chicago — the birthplace of house music. A staple within Chicago neighborhoods are single-story homes or houses, formerly known as Bungalows. I thought Bungalow was a clever and subtle nod to the predominant genre of my new festival. The pronunciation also has a nice ring to it, similar to festival names like Lollapalooza, Okeechobee, & Coachella.
Once the name was established, I put together a light, cheery, and cool color palette that I thought resonated with the feeling of house music. I took inspiration from the Insomniac ‘eye’ logo and came up with different hand-drawn designs. Together, I had the key design components that define Bungalow Festival.
When I attend music festivals, I take a particular interest in the processes that go into the marketing, poster design, social strategy, & executing a professional cohesive brand. What started as what felt like a huge undertaking turned into a rewarding creative exercise of trial and error. I began to trust my instincts and embraced the fun process along the way.
